WLC Computer Science Teacher, Andrew Tyler Nominated for NH Teacher of the Year
It is our pleasure to announce that our very own Mr. Andrew Tyler has been nominated for the NH Teacher of the Year Award. Andrew has been a member of the WLC faculty for the past two years and in this time he has made a huge positive impact on our students, our curriculum, and our culture. During his time with us, Andrew became a NH Certified Educator for Computer Science in just one year, being only the 31st educator in NH to earn that distinction at the time. He has implemented a brand new curriculum for the middle school students while also working to bring in a new computer science curriculum for the high school. He is currently expanding and improving that curriculum. He has taken the time to find the grant money for and attend professional development to obtain certification to teach AP computer science classes such as Mobile CSP (computer science principles) and AP CSA (AP Java). Andrew has also brought in funding through grants to expand upon not only his classroom curriculum, but also create afterschool activities. He coaches two robotics teams. One for the high school and one for the middle school as well as an afterschool Dungeons and Dragons Club.
During our switch to remote learning in March 2020, Andrew was part of a team that led the school through workshops on remote learning and has maintained his role as a resource for staff and students for any technological inquiries. He has also worked to build our school community by creating helpful video tutorials for students and staff on school systems and programs while also creating, filming, and producing a WLC News Show broadcast in the midst of remote learning during the Spring of 2020. The news show, “What’s Good, WLC?” was a spark of light during a dark time for many of us. Andrew also stepped up as the interim department leader for the Unified Arts team. His professionalism and collaborative nature has made him an excellent addition to the leadership team.
Last, but certainly not least, Andrew builds strong relationships with his students and makes sure that they know that he is their advocate. We hope you will all join us in congratulating Andrew on this well-deserved nomination!
